IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs):
A Tax-Efficient Way to Support AngelOne

An IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a special provision that allows individuals aged 70½ or older to make direct transfers from their Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) to qualified charities, such as AngelOne, without having to pay income taxes on the distribution. This option provides a tax-efficient way to support our mission while also potentially reducing your taxable income.

How to Make a QCD to AngelOne

Making a QCD is a straightforward process:

  1. Contact Your IRA Custodian: Reach out to the financial institution that manages your IRA and inform them that you wish to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution to AngelOne.

  2. Provide Necessary Information: You will need to provide the following details:

  • Name of the charity: AngelOne, Inc.

  • Address: PO Box 1093, Calimesa, CA 92320

  • Tax Identification Number (EIN): 85-3448321

  1. Direct Transfer: Instruct your IRA custodian to make the transfer directly to AngelOne. Remember, for the distribution to qualify as a QCD, it must go directly from the IRA to the charity without passing through your hands.

  2. Confirm the Transfer: Ensure that the transfer has been completed and that AngelOne has received the funds.

By taking advantage of an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution, you can satisfy your RMD obligations, reduce your taxable income, and make a meaningful contribution to AngelOne’s mission. This tax-efficient giving strategy allows you to support the causes you care about while optimizing your financial planning.

How QCDs Can Satisfy Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs)

Once you reach the age of 73, the IRS requires you to begin taking RMDs from your traditional IRA. These distributions are typically subject to income tax, which can increase your taxable income for the year. However, a QCD can be used to satisfy your RMD requirement, offering a tax-efficient alternative to taking a taxable distribution.

Here’s how it works:

  • Direct Transfer: When you make a QCD, the funds are transferred directly from your IRA to AngelOne. This means the distribution never passes through your hands, ensuring it is not included in your taxable income.

  • Satisfying RMDs: The amount of the QCD can count toward your RMD for the year. For example, if your RMD for the year is $20,000, you can make a QCD of $20,000 to AngelOne, fulfilling your RMD requirement without having to recognize the $20,000 as taxable income.

  • Tax-Free Transfer: Because the QCD is excluded from your income, you don’t have to pay federal income taxes on the amount transferred to AngelOne. This can help lower your overall taxable income, potentially reducing your tax burden and keeping you in a lower tax bracket.

What Is an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)?

A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA to a qualified charity like AngelOne. The key feature of a QCD is that the amount transferred is excluded from your taxable income, which can provide significant tax savings. QCDs are especially beneficial for those who are required to take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from their IRA accounts.

Reduces Taxable Income

The amount you gift (up to $105,000 per year) is excluded from your gross income, lowering your tax bill without needing to itemize deductions.

Counts Toward Your RMD

QCDs satisfy all or part of your Required Minimum Distribution, helping you meet IRS withdrawal rules while putting your money to work for a cause.

Lowers AGI‑Based Costs

By keeping your adjusted gross income down, you may avoid higher Medicare premiums, phase‑outs of deductions and credits, and increased taxation of Social Security benefits.

Tax Benefits of QCDs

QCDs offer several significant tax advantages, particularly for those who are subject to RMDs:

  • Reduction of Taxable Income: By excluding the amount of the QCD from your taxable income, you can reduce your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). This can have a positive effect on other aspects of your tax return, such as reducing the taxation of Social Security benefits or lowering Medicare premiums.

  • No Need to Itemize: QCDs provide a tax benefit whether or not you itemize your deductions. This is particularly advantageous in the context of higher standard deductions, where itemizing might not otherwise provide tax savings.

  • Direct Impact on AngelOne: Your QCD will have an immediate impact on AngelOne’s mission, allowing us to continue our work in supporting aviation projects within the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

*Pursuant to IRS charity regulations: While AngelOne Inc. intends to honor all donor requests, the use of donated funds is at the sole discretion of the board of directors.
